‘Plan B’ is a Perfect Recipe for Failure and Disaster.
We Function Better if There is No Safety Net.
One incident always comes to mind whenever I see or hear the words ‘Plan B’.
During my 9 to 5 job, I was engrossed in a major project. Before implementation, I needed to create a plan and discuss it with my manager. I invested a week in developing a stellar plan, feeling confident that I covered every aspect.
When discussing it with my manager, everything seemed fine. However, in the end, he questioned me, “What about Plan B?”
I was stumped. Why did we need a Plan B?
I suggested making it later during implementation.
His response was firm, “We can’t move ahead without Plan B.”
I eventually created it, but my mindset was negative. I meticulously thought about every step in the project, anticipating what could go wrong and outlining alternative paths.
However, this process drained my positive energy and enthusiasm for the project. When presenting Plan B, my shoulders slumped.
And, as fate would have it, everything that could go wrong did go wrong during implementation. Even Plan Z failed.
